Cordoba was the most important city in Europe during the peak times of Al-Andalus. The capital of the Caliphate boasted a thousand baths and the biggest mosque of its time. Today, it is still the biggest mosque outside a Muslim country. Cordoba’s Mosque is an intriguing and disconcerting monument, where Christian and Muslim culture, art and religion meet and clash at the same time. In May, “Los patios” is a Unesco World Heritage festival which offers a unique opportunity of visiting many private houses and see the traditional Muslim background of this most captivating town.
