The second largest city of the autonomous comunity of Valencia, Alicante is not as well-known as the capital and it has not so many tourist attractions as its bigger sister but it is lively, friendly and cheaper. When it comes to go to the beach it offers an incredible array of nice coves and for the lazy ones a huge urban beach "Postiguet" which in summer attracts lots of youths day and night. Las "Fogueres de Sant Joan" Festival (Saint John Bonfires) takes place on the 24th of June and to some extent is much more fun although not as extravagant as Valencia's world famous "Las Fallas Festival" Expect lots of music, drinking, fire works and water. Near Alicante, the hills have a lot to offer. The Fonts D'Algar are a very popular, very tourist, yet stunning and worth visiting, series of fresh water ponds.
